Are you looking for some short, readable and free resources to use to grow in your personal knowledge of the Bible, doctrine and Christian living? Or, perhaps for a resource to read and discuss with a friend?
The Gospel Coalition has recently made their 10 booklet series available for free (as downloadable PDFs). Click on the links below to download the files:
- The Holy Spirit by Kevin DeYoung
- The Plan by Colin S. Smith
- Justification by Philip Ryken
- Creation by Andrew M. Davis
- The Kingdom of God by Stephen Um
- Gospel-Centered Ministry by D.A. Carson and Tim Keller
- Christ’s Redemption by Sandy Wilson
- The Church: God’s New People by Tim Savage
- Baptism and the Lord’s Supper by Ligon Duncan and Thabiti Anyabwile
- The Restoration of All Things by Sam Storms
Consider this approach to simple discipleship:
- Download and print the booklets.
- Skim through them and pick one that interests you.
- Invite a younger (or older) church member (or more than one!) to join you in discussing it. (Skim your C-Group list or our membership list; consider inviting someone you don’t know well and would like to get to know!)
- Set a date to meet. Set a lunch or coffee date (or double with spouses) 2-3 weeks out, so that you have time to read and digest it.
- Meet and discuss. Ask questions like: “What is one thing you learned?” “What encouraged you?” “What will you change about how you think or live?” and “What didn’t you understand?” Let discussion flow.
- Pray. Praise God for what you learn; ask his grace to work in each other’s lives.
- Repeat, if desired. Consider continuing through more booklets with that person. Or, pick a different person for the next booklet. Or, keep inviting different individuals to read that same booklet with you. (Just think, you could impact 25 people…and only have to read one booklet!)
That “simple discipleship” process could be imitated with any resource, especially those available in our church bookstall. If you’d like a suggestion for a resource, please ask an elder.
